6  Conclusion

Creating art is an act only human do on purpose. This thesis is part of such an act, a very sophisticated one.

With this thesis one more step was done to generate a large scaled Jacob's Ladder and bring the fascination of high voltage phenomena closer to the public.

Theory about dc-arcing was discussed and the function of a voltage multiplier cascade explained.

A complex system for generating a short-circuit proof high dc-voltage to feed a large scaled Jacob's Ladder was simulated, designed and as far as possible tested. This system contains a rectifying and filtering module, an inrush current limiter, a digital signal generator to provide a chopper with a control-signal, a 500mH inductor for current-limiting, a voltage multiplier cascade, temperature controlling modules and a control board.

In addition, studies about a sculpture-design were made.

The results of the generation of a high dc-voltage without transformer using power electronics are also useful for other fields of electrical engineering.
